When you visit the Isle of Man on your golfing holiday, you will ‘note’ that we have our very own money! There is no exchange rate to worry about and UK money is legal tender at all times.
It’s always worth checking your change as we have the most special five pence pieces in circulation. These have a unique golf design and double up as the most bespoke ball markers on the planet!
The five pence pieces are a great talking point in your friendly fourball and it’s always handy to take a few home to share with your group of golfing friends. At 5p a time, probably the cheapest holiday gift you’ll acquire.
The pictured coin was an original design and superseded by the following, more detailed coin in the 1990’s.
The coin is officially minted by the Isle of Man Government and is believed to be ‘modelled’ on the former Isle of Man Golf Champion, Gary Wilson. (I can’t see the likeness myself!)
I make a habit of collecting the special 5 pence coins from friends, golfers and members of the Rotary Club of Rushen and Western Mann. A donation is then made to a fabulous Isle of Man Charity – CRUSE – This is a wonderful cause and if you feel the need, do not hesitate to make a donation. (365 days per year of complete goodness from all in the CRUSE team – well done!)
