Isle of Man professional golfer Tom Gandy will be teeing it up in the South African Open on Thursday 09 January 2020. The Rowany Golf Club member will be competing in a full European Tour event following his successes on the Europro circuit and PGA qualifying in 2019.
This is an exciting time for Tom as the list of past winners in South Africa include Gary Player and Ernie Els. The field will be the strongest Tom has ever competed in and will be a real test for the Manx golfer who will be playing 1000’s on miles away in the sunshine. We understand that his brother Jay Gandy may be carrying the bag. The brotherly combination has been effective on tour.
The Championship course has two sets of 18. It looks very tough and environmentally, will be a contrast to his home club at Rowany. The Firethorn card can be found here and the Bushwillow card is here

You will see some of the World’ top golfers in the frame for this event that carries a purse greater than anything Tom has contended for. Last year, the event was won by former major winner Louis Oosthuizen and the prize fund was 17m Euro.
Tom announced to his friends on social media over the festive period this exciting news.
Because I’m pleased to be able to say I’ll be making my European Tour debut at the South African Open starting 9th Jan 💪🏼 so ramping up practice again in an effort to try get my game back to a good level to be as ready as I can be for the start of my season!’
